These quoins are a longer version of the standard quoin. They are 3.5in in length.

The Quoin is used to hold cutting dies, printing blocks, embossing dies or letterpress type into printing presses. It originates from the early days of letterpress printing and is still in use today. While there are few different patterns of quoin, ours is generally the most commonplace one.

Our Quoins are the standard ‘Cornerstone style’ full-width quoin that use the standard square socket pattern tool which we supply. They are not ‘narrow-margin’ or ‘slim’ quoins.

These items are used as they are getting rare these days, we buy good items then strip, clean and service them so they can go on to provide years of service. Any broken or worn parts are replaced.

The quoins will either be Cornerstone, Cefmor-Bremer or Tru-Forme – all high quality makes of quoin.

The architectural word quoin, denoting an angular stone or wedge-shaped block, entered the language as a printing term in 1570. Quoins are a locking tool used to hold type or bases snug on the press bed. A minimum of two are needed to lock up a form, one for vertical hold, one for horizontal.
