Ink Stiffener

Lyme Bay Press Letterpress Ink Stiffener is a must have for all printers, professional or beginner. Ink is often too wet straight out of the tin and this can cause blotchy printing, blurred indistinct images or letters that just don’t look sharp and crisp as they should. All inks vary and some are naturally more viscous and other more mobile. Often the red inks are very wet so more stiffening is required. Consequently there’s no hard and fast rule for correct percentages to add to ink but we think starting at 5% is a good place to begin and add more where you need it. Adding too much can cause your ink to not stick properly and can result in poor transfer from the ink rollers to the form or “stripping” of the ink from the job.
